1. Brass Detailing
The once-popular finish has fallen the wayside in recent years, but brass is back with a bang in 2020! A much warmer alternative to chrome, brass detailing is a great way to give your bathroom's features a distinctive, elegant look.
Take this wall-mounted brass tap, for example. While its simple curved design sticks to minimalist design cues, the brass finish adds tonnes of sophistication. In 2020, try adopting brass wherever you'd normally see chrome. From taps to shower heads, radiator valves to shower valves, you'll find all manner of products in brass here.
2. Luxuriously Deep Slipper Bathtubs
With freestanding bathtubs of all shapes and sizes being all the rage in 2019, luxuriously deep slipper baths are our personal favourites. Boasting a single delicately raised end, these tubs provide extra support for the body and result in an exceptionally comfortable experience.
This Turin 1370 Small Modern Slipper Bath, features all of the iconic looks you'd associate with a slipper bath yet in a surprisingly compact form factor, making it ideal for smaller bathrooms. Like the look but want something more traditional? Explore our wide range of slipper baths, in styles to suit any space.
3. Marble Wallpaper
Bathroom wallpaper, in general, has been booming in popularity in recent years but 2020 marks the year of marble wallpaper. An effective way of giving your bathroom a natural touch without costly tiling.
With its rose gold trim and hexagon design (more on geometric patterns later!), this particular wallpaper blends a host of trending styles to create something truly spectacular.
4. Rounded Rectangular Illuminated Mirrors
With sharper designs making way for their curvier counterparts throughout 2019 it only makes sense that mirrors, the focal point of most bathrooms, follow suit in 2020.
Our pick? The Turin Ambient Colour Change LED Bluetooth Mirror. This beautiful rounded mirror is an exceptional example of the trend. It even features smart capabilities in the form of colour changing LEDs and an impressive Bluetooth speaker.
5. Floating Vanities
If you're anything like all of us at VP HQ, you'll occasionally get the lingering feeling that your bathroom could be bigger. In 2020, we sense that more and more trends will centre on making conventional bathroom products as compact as possible. Floating vanities serve to give the impression of more space by opening up the floor.
This particular Villeroy and Boch option is our astoundingly compact vanity of choice. Despite taking up hardly any space it still features an adequately sized basin as well as useful soft-close drawers.
6. Anthracite & Matte Black Finishes
A refreshing alternative to chrome, anthracite and matte black finishes continue to rule the roost when it comes to tapware, showers and radiators in 2020. Embracing the dark side has never been easier with countless designs adopting the finish.
Whether you opt for the dark grey hue of anthracite or a deep matte black, we recommend testing the water, if you'll pardon the pun, with a gorgeous basin tap - such as this wall mounted one from Duravit. This simple upgrade will work wonders, bringing a dated bathroom into the 2020s.
7. Black Framed Shower Screens
Another bathroom trend from last year that continues its meteoric rise in this new decade. If you've already integrated a darker tap, black framed shower screens are the next step in your atmospheric makeover.
The refined industrial-vibe provided by this Hudson Reed grid is definitely something we'll see more of in bathrooms throughout 2020, with luxury hotels having already adopted the trend.
8. Classic Blue Furniture
Though 'Classic Blue' has only just been announced as Pantone's Colour of the Year 2020, we've been ahead of the curve on this one. Our bathroom furniture range boasts a plethora of options in similar blue tones to suit almost any style.
The most notable of which is this classic blue Keswick Bathroom Suite. Featuring a traditionally-styled bathtub, toilet, vanity unit and mirror cabinet all in the on-trend hue. Everything you need to revolutionise your space in one package.
9. Terrazzo Tiles & Accessories
A glorious blend of marble, quartz, granite and glass. Terrazzo tiles (and matching accessories) are expected to have a starring role in the bathroom trends of 2020. We're particularly fond of utilising them underfoot, adding a subtle natural touch to bathrooms that could otherwise feel too clinical.
Genuine Terrazzo, however, can be extremely costly and difficult to install. Fortunately, these porcelain Rivara Terrazzo effect tiles are almost indistinguishable from the real thing at a fraction of the price.
10. Geometric & Hexagon Tiles
As our marble wallpaper pick hinted at earlier, geometric and hexagon designs have been appearing more and more in the bathrooms of interior designers and Instagram influencers alike. Hexagon tiles provide the most impactful way of implementing the style.
Take these Vista Hexagon Off White Wall Tiles, for example. Keep things minimal by sticking with this single neutral colour to create intriguing feature walls and floors. Alternatively, add another coloured hexagon tile to the mix and let out your artistic side with patterns.
11. Double Sink Vanity Units
Once reserved for fancy hotels and stately homes, double sink vanity units have become more and more affordable in recent years leading to a huge surge in popularity. The wonderful perks of installing them lead us to believe that this trend will be a lasting one.
Whether you want to keep your precious products separate from a messy partner or simply want a dedicated basin for your children, double sink vanities can enhance your unrivalled organisational skills all while providing a stunning focal point.
12. Modern LED Lighting
Though the tech has been used sparingly in bathrooms for a while, we predict that in this coming decade we'll see LED lighting become a desirable and essential upgrade. More efficient, longer-lasting, and now more stylish than ever LED lighting can be used in numerous ways to amplify your bathroom's look.
With its slick, minimalist look and astonishingly bright LED module, this Sensio Neptune Over Cabinet Light is a truly impressive example of what modern LED lighting can do. It's even available with a choice of Cool White or Warm White, allowing you to match it to your bathroom's specific ambience.
13. Rainfall Showers & Shower Heads
With the ability to make every shower feel like a luxury spa experience, its easy to see why rainfall showers and rainfall shower heads are really taking off. These grandiose shower options make use of their wider surface area to create invigorating streams of water, reminiscent of heavy rainfall.
Despite producing a much more immersive experience, rainfall showers are also incredibly efficient, using an average of just 11 litres of water per minute. Whether you choose to replace your entire shower or just equip your current one with a new head, we're certain you won't regret the switch.
14. Scene Stealing Focal Point Basins
For the past two centuries (yes, centuries) basins the world over have used white ceramic designs. In recent years, however, we've seen matte black basins, quirky colourful basins and even extravagant patterned options.
In 2020, expect to see more and more stylish bathrooms using these unique basins as focal points. This Kasbah floral patterned basin is a prime example of the trend, with its eyecatching design allowing it to be considered a work of art in its own right!
15. Efficient Dual Flush Toilets
With more and more of us finally becoming eco-conscious, old-fashioned wasteful toilets and valves are making way for much more efficient dual-flush options.
These dual flush toilets and valves allow you to choose between a full flush (usually between 6-8 litres) and a half flush (3-4 litres). While a dual flush valve won't do anything to enhance your bathroom's look, it will work to halve it's your toilet's water consumption. It's cool to care!
16. Timeless Metro Tiles
The go-to tile for almost any traditionally-styled bathroom, it's no surprise that metro tiles will continue to trend in 2020. Perfect for achieving a sleek and uniform look they're also incredibly versatile too, allowing you to implement them in kitchens as well as bathrooms.
We're particularly fond of the on-trend dark grey hue of these Victoria Metro Tiles, which can be used to add a modern twist to any traditional bathroom. These particular metro tiles are available in a host of traditional and modern tones, so you'll be sure to find something to suit your space.
17. Natural Finishes
As bathroom design has been striving towards minimalism and technological advancements many of our bathrooms have lost that all-important hint of the outdoors. We think bathroom trends for 2020 will take steps to rectify this by incorporating natural finishes.
Whether you opt for the rugged natural look of granite flooring or the outdoorsy chestnut tones of Ronda storage units, it's imperative that you have something organic in your bathroom.
18. Traditional Edwardian Washstands
Another big trend on the rise in traditional bathrooms. Edwardian washstands, with their grandiose chrome frames, are true scene-stealers and can act as a focal point in most settings.
A classic accompaniment to a freestanding bathtub, this Keswick incarnation of the Edwardian washstand is simply breathtaking and looks right at home when situated beneath a traditional mirror cabinet.
19. Coloured Baths
Another traditionally white bathroom component, bathtub designs have experienced a colourful evolution in recent years and we expect to see a lot more of these tubs appear in our homes throughout 2020.
The sumptuous copper tone of this Heritage Hylton marks the very height of luxury when it comes to coloured baths, and even comes equipped with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects. Copper not floating your boat? You can find more choices in our guide to coloured baths, here.
20. Digital Showers
Another bathroom tech trend for 2020. Digital showers offer more precise control than ever before. Set your temperature to the precise degree. Cycle through the range of flow rates until you find one that perfectly suits you. Some digital showers even allow you to set the temperature before you step inside, putting an end to those shivery first few minutes.
The Aqualisa Q Smart Digital Concealed Shower is our digital shower pick. Blending high-end tech with an elegant minimalist look, this is the epitome of bathroom style for 2020.
